The design for the Clemson site is progressing, but definitely still in development. We have gone through a lot of different proposals for all the components of the design, as well as having to do a lot of research on the materiality and structural integrity of everything, but we still need to remember to bring everything back together. One initiative that we have had at this is trying to maintain a strong unified concept for the group, the idea that our site is a threshold (between the city and the landscape, the water and the bridge, the sidewalk and the park....). At times we have veered away from some of this just during the process of design, but we are trying to make sure we maintain that because it has a very strong meaning to our site.
We had a department wide review of our projects a few days ago and it was very interesting to get the opinions of other people from outside our class. I think it was a very good point in our design to have a review like that because people were able to get a good idea of what we have proposed to build, and it also put us in a position to analyze our work some more. After explaining our project to several faculty and students you are able to analyze better what you think about the project. I still think we have a strong concept, and I think it is going to be how we implement that that will determine our design success. And hopefully we are able to create a cohesive design that holds the site back together again.
