Clemson Elementary Program

Part of our community involvement with this project includes an afterschool architecture program with students from Clemson Elementary. We felt that since Jaycee Park is used by a lot of children and families because of the playground, that this would be a great opportunity to get them involved by teaching them a little about architecture and about the project that we are working on so that they will feel like they are part of it and will be excited about it when it gets built.

We started our first afterschool session yesterday, and it was a big hit with the kids! They really enjoyed it and we learned a lot from it too. We decided to start the first session of learning about architecture with having them design their own front gate. Just like Jaycee Park, their front gate to their house is their connection to the community, and is that threshold. So they designed gates that expressed them and what they liked. There certainly was a lot of creativity involved and we had tons of great ideas. They all really enjoyed it and they are looking forward to the next session as well and they can't wait for Jaycee Park to get done!
